The Charge of an Elder
1 Peter 5.1-4
So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
This past Sunday I was installed as the lead pastor of CrossPointe Downtown. As I reflect upon this past week in the midst of what has been life changing transition and incredible opportunity I also think about the weight of responsibility that I now carry.
However, it comforts me to know that I do not carry it alone. The reason why I do not carry it alone is because it is Jesus’ church. Jesus is the senior pastor and he has appointed men who love him and love his church to lead his church under his authority.
Our Executive Elders – "Serve by Leading"
I have had the privilege to serve at CrossPointe since almost the very beginning. I have served along side the 3 men that are executive elders at CrossPointe at various times. Pastor Chan has been an elder and instrumental leader in my life. Through some of the most amazing and difficult times in marriage, family, and ministry Chan has steadily urged me to love Jesus above all else and to love and serve my family. Pastor Jamie was CrossPointe’s 1st church planting apprentice, when he started his apprenticeship we had no idea that God would use it to open the door to a multi-congregational movement that would span over 7 congregations, 1500 people in 2 states today. Just as Jamie and his wife Heather were planting CrossPointe Winter Park Jared Davis came on board for an apprenticeship. He and his wife Jocelyn immediately became and incredible part of our team. 5 years ago when CrossPointe Lake Nona moved into a new facility we sent Jared and Jocelyn to plant CrossPointe Waterford Lakes.
I have watched God use and grow these men and each of them have poured into and invested in my life. Together they lead CrossPointe as a whole guarding the mission, doctrine, and seeing that we point our communities to Jesus Christ.
Not only are these men godly pastors, but they are also godly husbands and fathers. They love their wives as Christ loves the church and gave himself for her. I have seen their godly example in some of the most difficult situations. These men are not perfect men, but they are faithful men. They lead out of a desperate dependence upon the power of the Holy Spirit and submission to Jesus as the senior pastor of our church. I consider it an honor to serve under their loving and godly leadership.
